Tomorrow, Tom and I leave to attend the North American Vet Conference in Orlando, otherwise referred to as NAVC. I think Dr. Larry arrives today.
I have not been to a vet conference in many, many years. As Dr. Larry noted in his post yesterday, I'm sure to be surprised by all the amazing developments in veterinary science. I do know that more girls than boys (woman than men?) graduate from vet school, these days. It's definitely an attractive profession for women - albeit, a tough one.
I say tough because there is a lot of suffering that goes along with the care of animals. And yet, our pets rarely demand as much attention as their human counterparts. Pets are accepting of many medical issues - because they don't know better. To me, that's why today's improvements are so important. Creating that long and healthy life for our pets is every pet owner's desire. Isn't it?
Today, we do it with a lot more knowledge and attention, than in those ancient days of the 20th century. Of course, the desire to take care of our pets hasn't changed. It was there from the beginning. But, as medicine for humans progresses, so does medicine for pets, and I can't wait to see how the two overlap.
Tom and I will be doing some "live" blogging here and at Scratchings and Sniffings. We'll post pictures and
we'll keep you as updated as we can via twitter. Follow @mypetblog if you want all the latest and greatest news from the NAVC.
We're also eager to meet people we've talked to, via our blogs - other pet people who blog, companies that support pets, and veterinary technicians. It's just going to be a blast!
And, a huge learning experience! BTW, our focus is The Myth of Nine Lives - concentrating on cats to delve deeper into that assumption-- that cats have nine lives.
Do they, really? Stay tuned!
