For those readers who are subscribed to Scratchings & Sniffings, you'll know this story, or at least some of it. Tom and I took the Wabby, resident Queen Kitty, on a cross-country move from Rochester, NY to Frederick, CO and arrived (all in one piece - I know, I checked us all for pieces and every toe and every finger was accounted for), the day before yesterday.
Getting here was half the battle, of course. We drove and drove and drove, and went through Ohio, and stopped at a fabulous B&B (White Rabbit Inn, in case you're interested), and then drove and drove, through Indiana and Nebraska, until we finally got to Colorado. Unfortunately, we did not stop to get bumper stickers...so, you'll have to take my word for it.
Amazingly so, Wabby acted as if this was just another day. Her cat carrier is pretty large and it has a plastic top which she can see out of, so I expect that was a big help for her. She could see me and Tom, and felt very secure in her little place. At every rest stop, we took her out, showed her the sights, and even let her wander about in the grass a couple of times. Understand, she never goes outdoors...so the grass
was a new experience for her. She picked her little paws up very carefully with every step.
She found the trucks fascinating. Most areas we stopped for gas were truck stops (after all, we were riding in a big truck, pulling the car behind us!) and Wabby could not believe her eyes! They were as big a saucers! It's a bit hard to tell in this picture, because of the glare, but she was totally fascinated.
All in all, it was somewhat rough - trucks do not make for smooth riding - but uneventful, a bit fun, and truly out of the ordinary for my little housecat. I did take some of Dr. Larry's advice on moving, which he gave us last August. And so, today, the Wabby is happy to be in her new home. She is still exploring, and likes to sneak into the closets to sleep. This house is carpeted, as opposed to our old house, which was entirely hardwood floors. I would like to put hardwoods on the main floor, someday. But, we'll leave the carpeting in the bedrooms, I guess.
Last little bit, we saw a LOT of dogs being walked at rest stops and gas stations, but no other kitties. It's just as well. Wabby likes being one of a kind.
