Health Care For Those On Four Paws

My-puppy In case you've been living under a rock, here's some news: pet health insurance is here to stay. Finally! I say "Finally!" with emphasis because I wish we'd had pet health insurance back when I was a practicing veterinary technician. But, it was not meant to be in those long ago 20th century days.

Today, you can do a Google or Yahoo! (or Bing) search and discover so much information on pet health insurance, it might make you dizzy. For me, I look carefully at the company offering the insurance, and I do a good check on what the insurance covers. Dr. Larry writes in this blog, also, about different reasons our pets might need PurinaCare Pet Health Insurance - and we've done some podcasts that describe cases. But, as a concernced pet lover, I know you want all the details and you want to make sure you're making the right decision for your dog or cat. (including, how to keep them healthy and out of the vet's office)

The plan overview for PurinaCare Pet Health Insurance is worth a look-see. One of the nice things that Purina has done is offer online, free quotes, right at the Plan Overview site. And, elsewhere on the PurinaCare website. One area that I really like is the Caring for your pet page. The folks at Purina have done a good job of posting advice on how to take good care of your dog or cat, from that first day home all the way to their senior years. Naturally, they advise you to consult a veterinarian if you have health questions - the content on the site is pretty much reference material, and might help you explain to your vet what's wrong, when you do take your cat or dog in.PurinaCare-Pet-Health-Insurance

About.com, the site that posts information on just about any subject, has a good article on Pet Insurance, saying, "Pet health policies are similar to human insurance policies; annual premiums, deductibles, and different coverage plans based on what the owner chooses. Plans are based on species, age, pre-existing conditions and in some cases, lifestyle of the pet (i.e. indoor vs. outdoor cat)."

We talk about this a lot here (of course!) and we welcome questions, also. In the end, I'm so happy that pet health insurance has finally come of age, so to speak. We pet Moms and Dads want to take the very best care of our pets as we can - and we need that reassurance that in an emergency, we don't have to worry about the vet bill. It's about making sure our dogs and cats get the very best care - and we have peace of mind about that.
